Coffee Cup Conversation: Katherine Sims, Executive Director, Green Mountain Farm-to-School

Katherine Sims founded Green Mountain Farm-to-School (GMFTS), a nonprofit organization in Newport Vermont, in 2008 to promote the health of Vermont's children, farms and communities by connecting schools and farms through food and education. GMFTS currently works with over 20 schools in Northern Vermont, with plans to expand statewide. As Executive Director, Katherine is responsible for overseeing the organization, developing GMFTS' long-range strategic plans, raising funds, publicizing its activities, managing its staff and board. Katherine has a B.A. in history from Yale University where she worked with students to develop the proposal for the Yale Farm and establish a school garden at local elementary school. Prior to joining GMFTS, Katherine apprenticed at several farms in northern Vermont including Butterworks Farm and Lazy Lady Farm. Katherine loves to ski and enjoys raising sheep, chickens and vegetables with her husband on their homestead farm in Westfield. NOTE: You must register in eRecruiting for these events. Design Your Own Internship

Life at the NSA

The National Security Agency (NSA) is home to America's codemakers and codebreakers. The National Security Agency has provided timely information to U.S. decision makers and military leaders for more than half a century. NSA is unique among the U.S. defense agencies because of their government-wide responsibilities. NSA provides products and services to the Department of Defense, the Intelligence Community, government agencies, industry partners, and select allies and coalition partners. In addition, they deliver critical strategic and tactical information to war planners and war fighters. Come meet Richard "Dickie" George, Information Assurance Technical Director, who has been with the NSA since 1970. As a technical leader, Mr. George works closely with teams and individuals giving advice and direction on specific, as well as general, technical questions; mentors; and serves on various technical boards.

Careers in Law Series ~ Intellectual Property: Mr. Paul D. Greeley, Esq., Managing Partner - Ohlandt, Greeley, Ruggiero & Perle, L.L.P.

Guest Speaker: Paul Greeley ~ Mr. Greeley has extensive experience in many areas of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, licensing, mergers and acquisitions/divestments, entertainment and employment-related issues. He has also served as a patent law expert in litigation representing major multinational clients. His prior experience as a law clerk for the Chamber of Commerce of the United States, and a patent attorney for B.P. America Inc. provides his corporate clients with a full understanding of in-house issues.

Coffee Cup Conversation: Julian Prokopetz, Environment America

Julian Prokopetz graduated from Yale University in 2009 with a degree in Political Science and has since been working in Boston, MA with Environment America, a federation of state-based, citizen-funded environmental advocacy organizations that work to protect the nation's air, water, and open spaces. As the Energy Program Associate, Prokopetz's role is to help develop and coordinate campaigns at the local, state, and federal level to encourage policies that promote renewable energy and energy efficiency. He first interviewed for the position during the 2009 Yale Nonprofit Career Fair, and Environment America will be back on campus conducting interviews at this year's fair on February 19. Yale College 11th Annual Nonprofit Career Fair

Location: Lanman Center, Payne Whitney Gymnasium

This event provides students with the opportunity to meet with representatives from approximately 50 not-for-profit, governmental, social service, advocacy groups and advanced degree programs. It provides a chance for students to learn from employers about summer internships, one- and two-year service opportunities, and permanent jobs after graduation. In addition, some organizations will be conducting on site interviews the day of the fair.
